      Business planning is an essential tool that defines a company's objectives and outlines the plan and strategy to be implemented to achieve its goals. A business plan is in essence a blueprint outlining all key elements relevant to an entity, including marketing, financial, human resources and operational. 

      A business plan is designed for both internal and external use. On the one hand, business plans are used by entities to attract outside investment. On the other hand, a business plan serves as a tool that keeps management aligned and fully focused on the strategic action points required to achieve short and longer-term objectives.

          Buy-side
          An entity faces several decision points during its cycle of executing an acquisitive growth strategy, which includes the identification of potential targets, evaluation of business risks, assessment of synergies and the negotiation of commercial terms that optimises overall value creation. A business may be in distress and facing issues that it cannot resolve on its own or there may be a strategic rationale behind the decision (such as the divestment of non-core assets). In other situations, business owners may have identified an opportunity to cash-out, either partially or completely, and thus unlock part of their net worth that has been tied up in the business.
